Valerie Moseley, Artistic Director In January of 2005, Ear to the Ground hosted Portland, Oregon's Nomadic Theatre Co. with their production of The View from Here for a weekend of performances. Sharing Nomadic's goofy but insightful sense of humor with Seattle audiences was an ideal way to launch the company. In the summer of 2005, Ear to the Ground produced a double bill The Peevish Reconciliation of Chickee and Boom-Boom along with Under the Table's Solo, a Two Person Show. With its imaginative use of everyday objects, kooky but grounded characters, and music from unexpected sources, Chickee and Boom-Boom exemplified Ear to the Ground's mission of creating transformative theatre using audience's imaginations. Hosting Brooklyn ensemble Under the Table also solidified Ear to the Ground's commitment to nation-wide exchange. Future exchanges with like-minded companies are in the works. In the fall of 2005, a team of five performers, a composer, and an art director collaborated to develop a unique theatre piece exploring the number zero entitled The Zero Project. Beginning with everyday objects like lemons, hula hoops, bowls, and rope, and simple ideas (what could be more basic that counting!) we brought the audience on a beautiful journey into the metaphysical world. The 2005 season concluded with a Winter Wonderland fundraiser with goofy music, talking Christmas trees, and yummy cake. For 2006, Ear to the Ground is focused on booking Chickee and Boom-Boom for events, appearances, and theatre shows. Future seasons will bring more productions and collaborations that support Ear to the Ground's mission of using audience's imaginations as the primary tool to create transformative theatre while fostering relationships with like-minded theatre companies across the country. We aim to stir audiences to view the world around them in a new way, to inspire them to consider life with a fresh eye. |
